Learning how to use keywords is the main success factor in any paid or organic digital marketing strategy.   You need to maintain a keyword list that your potential customers are using to find products or services that relate to your business.

So today let’s talk about keywords. This article focuses mainly on researching keywords for Google Ad campaigns.

What are Keywords?

According to Google Ads definition, keywords can be identified as “Words or phrases describing your product or service that you choose to help determine when and where your ad can appear.”

So you need to know the words or phrases people use to find products or services that relate to your business. Your entire advertising campaign is depending on the keywords you choose. Google will use these keywords to show your ads to potential customers. If you choose the wrong keywords you won’t get the results you want.

1. Select Keywords Based on Your Campaign Goals

First, concentrate on your ad campaign goals. It could be for lead generation, Increasing sales or brand awareness, etc… Then focus on the product or service you want to promote from this campaign.

With these two facts in mind, decide a list of keywords that your potential customers would use to find your products and services.

For example, let’s think about Cyber Bridge. We are specialized in web designing. So what kind of keywords our potential customers are using. Some may use short-tail keywords, like “web designing” or “web developing”. Some users will use long-tail keywords, like “Website designing company Chiba” or “professional web designers in japan”.

Depending on the ad groups, prepare your keyword lists.

After the campaign starts, evaluate your keyword lists. Check their search volume. If you have low search volume for some keywords, delete or pause them. Add new keywords. You can use google recommendations. Usually, Google will give you suggestions. Don’t ignore them.

Don’t use too many keywords for one ad group. Try to stay from 15 to 20 keywords per ad group.

3. Enable the maximum Reach of your Keywords

There are a few ways to extend your reach. Let’s say you have the perfect list of keywords. And you designed a high-quality landing page. But if you don’t create your ads relevantly you won’t get the expected results. Focus on your ad texts. Try to keep the maximum relevance to your keywords.

Also, you can raise your bid on keywords and it will help you to improve your ad rank. Focus on main keywords and allocate more budget to them.

Use google search partners and maximize your reach. Using Google search and Google search partner networks will help you to get more user searches.

3. Never forget to update your negative keyword list

When you choose negative keywords, it will prevent your advertisements from displaying those keywords. Let’s take the same example we took earlier.

At CyberBridge there are certain services we don’t offer. Let’s say there is a search query called “create a website by myself”, which triggered our ad. In reality, this won’t generate new leads or sales for the campaign. So it’s important to exclude this from our campaign. We can add it to our Negative keyword list.
